Extreme Sports...

WOOO HOOO! Whistler mountain IS OPEN - Blackcomb Mountain opens tomorrow! We are in the midst of record November snowfall and are having one of its best openings in memory with back-to-back storm cycles blanketing the mountains in snow. Since November 1, the two mountains have received over 300 cm (10 FEET) of snow, beating the past record set in November 1994.
Row & I headed out today for some extreme snowboarding action. Was fun - although I admit I did have a bit of a teary when I fell down really hard on my coxix - twisted my knee a little bit too. BUT being the hard core rider I am I pushed through the pain and continued to carve up the green runs like all extreme beginners do. It was Row's second day out - he did well - three cheers for Rowan.
After just two runs we were pretty buggered - thighs a burning. There is SO much terrain here - 8,171 acres/3,307 hectares in total - its insane. Caught the gondola back down and celebrated our first day riding together with a well-deserved poutine - (Canadian delicacy of hot chips smothered in gravy and cheese - as Rowan called it so aptly, "This is chip porn. Stimulating, yet so wrong") - we have been holding out the last 3 months to try it.
Ainse & I have the day off tomorrow so are going to have a lesson which should be fun. One of the BIG benefits of being a WB employee is that we get free group lessons ALL season.
Will be rad to have a snowbunny to learn with throughout the season - although the friendship may be put to a test once we start fighting over sponsorship offers...
